The Baltics is a three-country region made up of the nations of Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia. In Latvia, some very cute silver coins emblazoned with the image of five cats was recently issued and became a huge hit with people worldwide!

The story of the “five cats” is a popular children’s fairy tale that is well-known throughout the region and these silver coins are emblazoned with the motif and has a face value of 5 euros (about USD $6.00 dollars). There is an image of five cats asleep in a bed on one side of the coin while there are five cats eating around a bowl of food on the other side of this recently minted coin. According to the Latvian Bank, this limited edition of 10,000 coins can be purchased over the counter at a price of USD $44.00 dollars (for a set of five coins) until November 24th.
