The function of the Automatic Brake System (ABS) is to provide peace of mind! However, if a pedestrian suddenly jumps out while driving, will the automatic brake system stop the car in time? Six auto manufacturers responded to that question and agreed to take part in the experiment. Let’s take a look at the video!
The challenge was for the six cars shown here (Mercedes Benz is not shown here but takes part in the experiment.)
(From Left)VOLVO V60 / Subaru Outback / Volkswagen / MINI Cooper S / NISSAN DUALIS
This mannequin will pop out suddenly in front of the car during the experiment!
Will the automatic brake system work as expected?
First, the MINI Cooper S!
I had to pump the brakes to stop!
The final stop position looked like this!
Next, the Volkswagen UP,
Unfortunately, I was unable to stop in time!
Here was the final stop position.
Next, the Nissan Dualis,
Oh! That’s too bad!
Though it was close, the car was pulling to the right.
Now, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class,
Wow! That was exciting!
I ended up hitting the mannequin quite hard.
How about the Volvo V60?
This was also exciting!
Finally, the Subaru Outback,
Oh ーーー! !
It stopped! The Subaru was amazing!!
It was perfect!
Result
The results show only the Subaru Outback was able to avoid the mannequin and a dangerous collision completely!
Amazing Subaru!!
