The Chinese state media reported the story of a witness of the incident which occurred shortly after take-off from Bangkok’s Don Muang Airport on the evening of the 11th. Some young male passengers asked for some boiling water for some instant noodles. The cabin crew asked the passengers to wait until the aircraft had reached a safe altitude. Then, the cabin crew requested a charge of THB 60 Baht for the hot water and when the passengers attempted to pay with Chinese currency, tempers became flared. The male passengers became angry and while shouting at the cabin crew staff, one of them threw the hot noodles and boiling water at one of the flight attendants!

China’s National Tourism Administration condemned the action of the four Chinese involved saying they had “significantly damaged the image of China overseas” and were considering pursuing criminal charges back in China as an attempt to appease local Thai authorities.

Although these incidents are rare and the vast majority of Chinese tourists are well-mannered and respectful, the foreign media picked up on this story and it became a rather big topic of discussion with many online viewers everywhere.
