It is unbelievable scene as an arid desert in Chile is now completely covered with beautiful flowers! Due to unusually heavy rainfall, a record number of desert flowers are now blooming in the Atacama desert in the South American country of Chile!

This desert is one of the arid areas in the world with an annual average rainfall of less than 4 millimeters! However, in late March this year, unusually heavy rainfall occurred which amounted to almost, which 7 years in just one night! So, this large amount of water caused the extensive blooming of desert flowers to explode and it is expected to accelerate even more in September this year.

This vividly colored flower is known as the “Desert Flower” and usually blooms once every five to seven years in this desert.

According to the Chilean botanist Pedro Leon Lobos, this phenomenon is called “Desert Flower Bloom” which usually occurs once every five to seven years. However, the “El Nino Phenomenon” has caused the ocean temperatures off the coast of Chile to rise recently causing unexpected rainfall in the Atacama desert.

In is a place that hardly any plants are able to grow, it is surprising to see such a beautiful landscape in just two to three months!
