An unusual incident occurred at the Illinois Brookfield Zoo on August 16th, 1996 when a 3-year-old boy lost consciousness and fell into the gorilla enclosure from a 10 meter fence. What happened next was captured on video.

Onlookers can only watch as the child lies motionless in the gorilla enclosure. One mountain gorilla is near the fallen child. The name of the gorilla is “Binti Jua”. Amazingly, the gorilla picks up the unconscious boy and protects him from the other gorillas in the enclosure!

The child is then rescued from the enclosure by zookeepers. Here is a photo of Binti Jua. This gorilla’s heroism became famous all over the world!
