Here is a 5-week old baby sea otter in the United States that is a protected species and is about to be transferred to an aquarium where it will be able to live safely in a protected environment.
This baby sea otter was discovered alone on a California beach on September 30th of this year and this tiny mammal weighed only 900 grams at the time of discovery. As this baby recovered back to normal health, its body weight went up by almost 3 times to 2.7 kilograms.
As this animal has no family, it was given a temporary name of “Pup 681” and fortunately a new home for the orphaned sea otter at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, Illinois. Here is a video of this otter moving to its new home.
Here are aquarium staff anxiously waiting to receive possession of Pup 681 and take the tiny mammal back to his new home.
Here is the young sea otter about to experience a swim for the first time since its rescue and recovery.
Here is the otter cheerfully drinking milk from a bottle.
The aquarium staff are delighted to receive and care for their newest resident!

This young sea otter looks to have a happy home at the Shedd aquarium where staff will continue to care for the animal and there is a very good chance that this rare animal will warm the hearts of many visitors who will come to the aquarium for many years to come.
