As a way to deal with the potential negative effects of an aging Society, “Present Perfect”  has been promoting various types of projects around the world and has published a video to spread its initiatives and has recently become hot topic online with many online viewers.

In one of “Present Perfect” projects, it will actively increase the opportunity for children to attend the same facilities as elderly people TOGETHER in order to encourage communication between these two generations and reduce the need to build separate facilities for both age groups.

In the Seattle area, a pilot project has been launched that combines a facility that cares for 400 elderly people to share time with kindergarten children and programs as shown here in the photo below.

Many long-term care facility residents experience both physical decline and spiritual loneliness so having contact with young children was positively received and deeply appreciated.

By providing an opportunity for communication to take place between distinctly different generations, it is hoped that seniors can derive energy and enthusiasm for life from the young children while these kids will be able to learn various things from these life veterans.

The “Aging Society Issue”.

The population segment of people over 65 years of age in Japan has reached 33 million according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications in 2014. This is now double the number of the population segment of young children aged 14 years of age and under in Japan for the first time since 1950. Moreover, the number of seniors aged 65 years and over is expected to double within the next 25 years.  The “Aging Society Issue” exists in other countries as well but is quite pronounced in Japan and could cause major social issues such as isolation and depression.
