This phenomenon is said to be a “horizontal arc” which is a type of atmospheric optical phenomenon that that occurs when when sunlight refracts ice crystals that are positioned within a narrow combination of altitude and horizon of the atmosphere. In this case, the “fire rainbow” was in a thin cloud horizon approximately 46 degrees under the sun while the sun’s altitude was 58 degrees or higher.
A “fire rainbow” is difficult to see so it was quite a surprise to witness this spectacular scene over the skies of Singapore!
