A small island off the coast the Netherlands called “Schiermonnikoog” is the world’s fastest moving island at a rate of 2.62 meters in one year.

Schiermonnikoog has existed off the coast of Holland for the past 762 years and has moved 2 km from its current position during that time due to the influence of the tide and the wind.
There is a village on the island where 1000 people live.

The main industry of the island is tourism. It has a campsite, a cottage and the other leisure facilities and a ferry which supports 300,000 tourists every year.
Whether the island is moving that much in one year is impossible to discern but in geological terms, this island is the fastest moving land mass in the world.
