Understanding where tourists and locals visit in the same city can reveal interesting information; especially uncovering popular areas where locals visit that tourists may not be aware of.

This map analyses the photos posted with location information in photo-sharing sites such as flickr by both tourists and locals. Where the Locals like to Go. Where the Tourists like to Go. The results are shown here on the map below:

Blue: Locals(Number of Photos Posted in the area in more than a month)
Red: Tourists(Number of Photos Posted in the area within one month)

Well, the areas of Asakusa, Akihabara, Odaiba and Tokyo Disneyland are clearly popular tourist destinations as shown by the large concentration of red dots. Also, Shinjuku and Shibuya appear to be popular with both locals and tourists according to the number of blue and red dots.

The neighborhood of Meguro has a large concentration of is a blue dots and appears to be a place where local people come and visit and tourists do not. Perhaps, this could be an optimal example of an area that could be recommended as a little-known spot for tourists to visit.
