Recent research from all over the world has shown that there are a number of species that are seriously under threat and could threatened with extinction if the current conditions continue.

One of the species under threat according to the research team is the cheetah and there is growing concern that this amazing animal is facing a formidable challenge in the future!

91% of the cheetah’s habitat has been lost.

The cheetah is universally known as the fastest running animal on the planet with the ability to generate remarkable in their pursuit of prey in Africa and Asia.

A research team compiled from renowned organizations of the Zoological Society of London (ZLS), the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and the International Protection Organization of Feline Families Wildlife (Panthera) recently released findings that indicate that almost 91% of the cheetah’s habitat has already been lost.

At present, it is believed there are about 7,100 cheetahs inhabiting the world right now.

A sharp decrease in southern Africa.

In the nation of Zimbabwe which is located in southern Africa, cheetahs have experienced a dramatic decline in the last decade. From approximately 1,200 animals in 1999 to only 170 in 2015! In Asia, there are only 50 cheetahs that inhabit a tiny region in the country of Iran!

Protected areas of the cheetah’s habitat must be secured.

According to the research team, the cheetah requires a fairly large area of habitat estimated to up to 48 square kilometers since this animal’s activities involve a great deal of movement. Unfortunately, this makes creating a protected habitat a significant challenge!

It is estimated that there are only around 2,360 cheetahs currently inhabited in protected regions at present and the research team’s recommendation to “In order to stop extinction, we must look at protecting entire areas that are substantially larger than ever considered before”! It is truly a huge challenge going forward!

The cheetah once existed on five continents but as the human population in the world continues to increase, the habitat of this wonderful animal continues to be destroyed at a rapid rate so it needs land to be protected from human intervention. Also, it may be necessary for the cheetah to be given more protection from larger predators such as lions and hyenas since these excellent hunters often lose their prey to them.

I hope that there will a solution for the cheetah and that extinction of animal all over the world can be stopped!
